Representatives of the German delegation “Politics with Women” and members of the Inter-faction union “Equal Opportunities” discussed the issue of equal rights and opportunities of men and women as an integral part of state policy and the issue of maintaining free access of women to the higher public posts and bodies of local self-government, etc.
Special attention was focused on the need to legislatively consolidate quotas in electoral party lists and on consideration of the draft law on amendments to several legislative acts of Ukraine (re ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men in the electoral process) under Reg. No. 3411 (authors of the draft law are Kondratiuk O., Herashchenko I., Tomenko M., Yatseniuk A., and Klychko V.).
Member of the Inter-faction union “Equal Opportunities” Olha Belkova underlined that despite certain progress on the way to maintaining gender equality, gender stereotypes still exist in the society.
In her turn, Maria Ionova, member of the Inter-faction union “Equal Opportunities”, noted that there should be launched outreach campaigns in order to overcome stereotypes.
Participants of the event exchanged experience and discussed the issue of introducing efficient legislative mechanisms for a balanced representation of men and women in the bodies of state power, as well as the ways to involve a larger number of women into socio-political life of the country.
The people’s deputies of Ukraine Maria Ionova, Olha Belkova, Tetiana Donets and the deputy of Kyiv City Council Hanna Starostenko participated in the event.
